Travelling to and in Newcastle upon Tyne
- Air: Newcastle International Airport operates domestic services including London and Manchester as well as international services to Amsterdam, Paris, and Dublin. There is a metro station in the airport terminal building.
- Train: From London or Edinburgh take a National Express East Coast train to Newcastle Central Station. The station is a 15-20 minute walk from the university or five minutes by metro. A train ticket that includes metro fair is available.
- Car: Newcastle is reached by the A1 (M) from London and Edinburgh; the A19 from York; the M6 from the south-west and west to Carlisle; and the A69 from Carlisle to Newcastle upon Tyne.
- Coach: National Express operates a regular coach service to and from their Newcastle Central Bus Station. The bus station is a five minute walk from the Central Railway Station. You can get the metro from the train station to Haymarket.
- Taxi: There are many companies operating in Newcastle. Blueline Taxis (0191 262 6666) is comparatively cheap. (Taxis must be picked up from a registered taxi rank or through reservation by calling a company to arrange a pickup. Taxis are not hailed!)
- Metro: The closest metro station to the university is Haymarket Station.
- Bus: There is an extensive bus network throughout the city and region run by various bus companies such as Nexus and Stagecoach. There are two bus terminals close to the Newcastle University campus: Haymarket and Eldon Square.
- Walk: The city is extremely pedestrian friendly. A Newcastle A-Z is available at most Newsagents (i.e. corner shops) for approximately £5. The guide is extremely helpful for navigating the city.
